Updating the RPI NAS

The RPI NAS that I had built a nice white wood box for has a new home. After finding a design for rack mounted raspberry pi, I knew I must have it. I came across the following design which holds 2 pi's:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3541225

I already have one running openhab and then having a second running openmediavault and pihole, this was perfect. I also have a 3d-printer, so no prob! Well it took a few months for parts to come in and my 3d printer kept breaking. But its finished! Since this picture was taken I have put the 2nd raspberry pi in the setup, everything seems to be running smooth.

If you are curious about the code running the OLED displays. Follow this adafruit blog post, I have raspbian OS launch a python script as a service on boot.

GotYourSix rebuild

After the spring Penn bots competition, camberlife (1lb) and sushi roll cage (150g) robots both came in first. Got your six (3lb) robot drive-train broke down losing out very quickly in the bracket.
Soooo the plan is to rebuild "got your six" with stronger plastic components, titanium back-plate, and the delrin front bumpers. Ready set go

Also going to retire sushi roll cage and come up with my own flyweight design.

Another battlebot to the collection

I currently have a antweight (1lb), beatleweight (3lb), 30lb robot in progress, and now.... we have a fleaweight (150g). I found the design on thingverse, link below, and had some spare parts. Walaaa

Sadly I cannot make motorama this year, so it will have to wait for combat, not sure where or when.

Adding FPV to the drone

The drone had been out of commission most of last year, due to the battery esploding(it didn't really explode, 1 of the cells died). After investing in a battery, I also bought a gimbal, gps, 5.8ghz tx/rx, and 4in lcd. So now it's like a legit kwad!!

I ended up taking the back-shell off the lcd, pulling the circuit board out of the 5.8g receiver and 3d printing a new back-plate to hold it all together. Oh and adding go-pro style mount and tab for Velcro strap.

Just waiting for a few more parts and it's time to rip.

Introducing "Camber Life" and updated to "gotyoursix"

After the bot brawl in PA, the 1lb'er sploded and the 3 lb, the one with 6 wheels, was getting pushed around. So without further a due, we now have a new 1 lb "what is camber" or "camber what"(still deciding on the name) and a revised "got your six".

The 1lb is nearly done, just waiting on the titanium for the wedge. Then I'm still mocking up the 3lb with the 3d printer. Oh and of course waiting for more parts in the mail. China is oh so far away...
Sadly motorama is full so I won't be able to test them there :(

3d printed battlebot update

After a few weeks of fiddling with the 3d printer settings it is now printing decent quality prints. I started reprinting the battlebot parts to reduce weight. I cut the amount of plastic in each part by half. Hopefully it will be enough to fit in the 1lb class.

Now its printing the biggest print I have ever done. 6 in tall squirtle! Which will be used in the contest on pinshape.com

It was bound to happen

It's been a while since the last nerd blog. Have been busy traveling and enjoying the summer. But now back to building combat robots. Back to flying drones. Back to hopefully brewing another beer soon. And lastly buying a 3d printer.

I went with the monoprice maker select v2 printer which also goes by a few other brand names. Supposedly a cheap Chinese knockoff, but it works really well for $350. The Chinese actually copied something and didn't mess it up???

Still working out the kinks, but it works
